AI Agents like Chat GPT, should I be worried about them as a developer?

There is no doubt that the most recent popular AI agent, ChatGPT, has taken the developer business by storm. Even though AI agents can help reduce our workload and make our lives more efficient, many developers feel it will replace our jobs and lower our salaries. Today, I will be discussing the pros and cons of AI Agents in the developer industry and why we should care.

So what is an AI agent? It is an artificial program that can produce information and take action to achieve an end result. AI Agents have the ability to learn from previous experience and thus can make better responses. AI agents come in different varieties, such as chatbots, self-driving vehicles, recommendations, fraud protection, and personal assistant agents like Siri.

The Pros of AI Agents

So what are the pros of AI agents such as ChatGPT? Well, to begin with, it can help in finding solutions quickly and effectively - making the lives of developers easier. Needless to say, many of us developers fall into a recurring predicament where we are not able to figure something out. Instead of spending countless hours with search engines like Google, ChatGPT offers a quick alternative that mostly produces a reliable solution. But because ChatGPT is still a learning bot, it does its best to calculate a solution it has learned previously so it can be mistaken at times.

Another pro of ChatGPT is its friendly-like responses which are easily human readable. It supports literally all types of coding and ethnic languages, making it accessible to everyone around the globe. It also has an excellent API for developers to use so we can create our own AI chatbots with our own specific intentions - which is really cool.

The Cons of AI Agents

Now for the cons of AI agents like ChatGPT - it’s going to change our lives as developers. Because we tend to be comfortable with our current tools/solutions, ChatGPT is going to force us to diversify technologies. This means we will have to adapt to new agile approaches, which means we will be less valuable to clients (our jobs would be less demanding). This is going to affect our workload, our self-driven purpose, and our confidence in our industry. Eventually, we will have to conform to ChatGPT’s ways of self-automated development solutions, where we then will be paid less for our services.

Another con of ChatGPT is that even if you like automated chatbot solutions, they are never going to be 100% reliable. Humans will always need to intervene when using such technologies. ChatGPT searches off the internet and makes its best guess at a solution, but many times can respond unreliable and faulty. Such tools will never be fully capable without the aid of humans.

Conclusion

In conclusion, AI agents can make our lives easier or less significant as developers. AI bots like ChatGPT are very resourceful when trying to figure out complicated solutions that cannot be found off Google, but its technology has the potential to destroy our livelihood as developers which means we could be underpaid or even completely useless. Diversifying can be an important role in the life of a developer, but could also lead to consistent headaches when having to re-learn new solutions constantly. ChatGPT can be a great tool for developers, but it’s also the way you perceive artificial intelligence - either good or bad.

Anyways thank you for reading my blog on AI agents and the effects of ChatGPT! I hope you liked it, and I hope you have a great day 🙂
